What is epiduo?
Epiduo is a prescription gel for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris. It combines two proven active ingredients: the retinoid adapalen and the antibacterial benzoyl peroxide.
This combination combats acne on several levels – it opens clogged pores, reduces inflammation and kills acne bacteria. Epiduo is particularly suitable for medium-heavy acne and can be used both in young people and adults.
There are also Epiduo Forte with higher concentration (adapals 0.3%, benzoyl peroxide 2.5%) for more persistent cases.
Active Ingredients & Mechanism of Action
Active ingredient: Adapalen 0,1%, Benzoylperoxid 2,5%
The active ingredients in Epiduo complement each other optimally:
Adapals (0.1%):
- belongs to the retinoids (vitamin A derivatives)
- Normalizes the cornification of the skin
- Prevents the formation of new comedons (center)
- Has anti-inflammatory properties
- Promotes cell renewal
Benzoyl peroxide (2.5%):
- Works strongly antibacterially against Propionibacterium acnes
- Release oxygen, which kills anaerobic bacteria
- No resistance development possible
- Lightly keratolytic (fooling)
Advantages of the combination: The simultaneous action on comedons, inflammation and bacteria makes Epiduo one of the most effective topical treatments for medium-heavy acne.
