What is Allergospasmin?
Allergospasmin is a combination inhaler which, like aarane, contains the active ingredients cromoglic acid and reproterol. It is used for the preventive and symptomatic treatment of allergic asthma bronchiale.
Cromoglic acid acts as a mast cell stabilizer to prevent allergic reactions, while reproterol as beta-2-agonist expands the bronchi. Allergospasmin is available as a dosing aerosol.
Like Aarane, Allergospasmin is also used less frequently today, as inhalative corticoids are more effective in asthma therapy. But it remains an option for light allergic asthma.
Active Ingredients & Mechanism of Action
Active ingredient: Cromoglicinsäure, Reproterolhydrochlorid
Allergospasmin has two mechanisms:
Cromoglic acid:
- Stabilizes mast cell membranes
- Prevents release of histamine and leukotriene
- Prevents allergic reactions
- Needs regular application for full effect
Reproterol:
- Short-acting beta-2-agonist
- Fast bronchodilation (3-5 minutes)
- duration of action: 4-6 hours
- Symptomatic relief
Time:
- Reproterol: immediate effect (minutes)
- Cromoglic acid: preventive action after days to weeks of regular use
Who is it suitable for?
